Inshallah on May 18 In the first of a series of lectures, we are very excited to welcome a known speaker from Southern California! Sister Noha Alshugairi, a licensed marriage and family therapist from Newport Beach, Ca will be joining us for a lecture.

Islamic Ijtima (conference) from May 25 to 28

The Islamic Ijtima (conference) organized by the Tablighi Jama brothers will take place from May 25 till May 28 at the Jamia Masjid, at 4730 East Desert Inn Road, Las Vegas, NV 89121. The ijtima is expected to draw some 500 brothers from different parts of the country. There will be several talks given by many scholars coming from different places. the brothers will be staying at the Masjid and the organizers will have additional arrangements for their boarding and lodging. Please make sure that you attend the ijtima or at least a few sessions if you cannot attend all the sessions.

During the duration of ijtima, the masjid will be used only by brothers as all the space will be occupied by them and there will not be an space for sisters during the ijtima. We request sister to make the sacrifice and give the brothers the opportunity to make the best use of the ijtima.

Hifz Classes

The Jamia Masjid is offering hifz program on Saturday and Sundays to all those who are interested in memorizing the Quran. Please contact the office for details.

Islam: Facts and Myths - UNLV Classes in Fall Semester

The UNLV will offer two classes from fall semester on Islam: Facts and Myths. The classes will be offered at Sun city and Paradise campus with the possibility of a third class in Henderson.

Shariah: Who Defines it?

In the US, with each passing day, the debate about Shariah is getting complicated. There are those who perceive Shariah as a threat to the US constitution and then there are those who view Shariah as a way of life lived according to principles promoted and protected by the US constitution. For some, it is the ideology of enemies and for others, it is a style of life of patriots. Important Tentative Muslim Dates for the year 2012

The dates provided here are based on the dates adopted by the Fiqh Council of North America. These dates are based on astronomical calculations to affirm each date, and not on the actual sighting of the moon with the naked eyes. This approach is accepted by many including ISNA and the Fiqh council of North America, but is still being hotly debated. These are the dates that are available through the calendar of the Fiqh council of North America.

Ramadan in 2012 will start on Friday, the 20th of July and will continue for 30 days until Saturday, the 18th of August.
Eid al-Fitr in 2012 is on Sunday, the 19th of August.
Eid al-Adha in 2012 is on Friday, the 26th of October.(The actual date will be determined by Saudi Arabia)
Ashura in 2012 is on Saturday, the 24th of November.
Lailat al Miraj in 2012 is on Saturday, the 16th of June. ( Note that in the Muslim calander, a holiday begins on the sunset of the previous day,
Lailat al Bara'a in 2012 is on Wednesday, the 4th of July.Note that in the Muslim calander, a holiday begins on the sunset of the previous day,
Lailat al Qadr in 2012 is on Tuesday, the 14th of August. Note that in the Muslim calander, a holiday begins on the sunset of the previous day,

Quran Hifz and recitation classes

Hifaz Classes are currently being offered by Imam Abdullah Aye daily, the resident Imam of the Jamia Masjid. Imam Abdullah is an Hafiz of the Quran who specializes in the recitation and tajweed of the Quran. Please contact the office to get the details.

Sunday School at Jamia masjid

The Sunday Islamic School for Kids is currently going on at the premises of the Islamic Society of Nevada. Please enroll your children and encourage others to enroll their children.

Pot Luck Dinner - Every Friday After Iasha

The community pot luck takes place every Friday after Iasha. Please join the pot luck dinner and develop a strong sense of community by interacting with people from different cultures and ethnic groups.

Open invitation to all

The Jamia masjid is open for all five daily prayers. Everyone is invited to offer prayer in jama at the Jamia. The reward for praying in Jama (congregation) is 27 fold as advised by Prophet Muhammad in several of his ahadith. It is our responsibility to ensure that our masajid are visited by brothers and sisters. The masajid are the houses of Allah and they are open to all regardless of their background.

Please come to the Masjid as frequently as you can and build the foundation of a strong Muslim community in Las Vegas.

Book on Salat

With a generous grant from Dr. Lubna Ahmed and Dr. Shamoon Ahmed, the ISON published a book on Salat. The book is approved by all the leading Islamic institutions of the world and is in circulation for several decades. The book published by the ISON also has time table for salat for the residents of Las Vegas.

Yassarnal Quran

Yassarnal Quran is one of the most popular and basic Quran primer to help a student learn the Quran in Arabic.This book is considered the best tool to learn the Quranic reading in a very short period of time. With the help of leading Muslim scholars such as Dr Muzammil Siddiq, Dr. Fathi Osman and Qari Hafiz Muhammad Saleem. Dr Aslam Abdullah has revised this basic book with additions and reorganization on the basis of latest teaching methodologies.

Morals and Manners

An Islamic Perspective, a translation from the Arabic Khuluq ul Muslim by Muhammad al Ghazali. The translation is done by Dr Aslam Abdullah.
